Flis' Blog: My Ambassador Cruises ship visit

As more people catch the cruising bug, it’s clear why they’re such a hit. With so many destinations and holiday styles to choose from, they really do offer great value.

Whether you're going solo, keeping the family entertained or looking for the charm of a smaller ship, cruising has something for everyone.

Ever eager to boost my firsthand knowledge and experience, I jumped at the opportunity to take a tour of Ambition, the second ship in the Ambassador Cruise Line's fleet, which conveniently sails out of Portbury Dock in Bristol.

With several cruise clients nearby and more people, including myself, becoming reluctant flyers, I was eager to see if this ship could offer more options for travellers in the West of the country.

The first win of the day? How easy it was to get there - just off the M5 and only 55 minutes from my Gloucestershire home.

The port itself is small and filled with cargo ships, but nestled between them was the gorgeous Ambition, gleaming in the sun. She’s not massive, but she’s a good size, and my first thought was, "Wow!"

The staff were incredibly friendly, with everyone stopping to offer a warm hello. I watched them interact with guests and was relieved to see the same genuine warmth and care throughout, not just because we were there.

Ambassador Cruises provides premium-value, no-fly cruises from eight UK ports. Their offerings include West End-style shows, exceptional service, outstanding cuisine and a celebration of British traditions with afternoon teas and classic British entertainment.

Ambition is the second ship in the Ambassador fleet, designed to carry 1,200 passengers, though it could easily accommodate more. Despite this, the ship feels spacious and comfortable, with just 680 cabins offering options for everyone from solo travellers to families.

With two main restaurants featuring traditional dining times and a few speciality options, there’s plenty to keep you satisfied throughout your holiday. The ship’s four bars, lounges and pub offer a wide selection at reasonable prices.

Whether you're catching a show, unwinding in Emily Brontë’s Library, or taking a dip in one of the two pools, there’s always something to keep you entertained.

Ambition offers sailings to a variety of destinations, including the Mediterranean, Iberia, North Africa, the Canaries, and even the Northern Lights, all departing from Bristol Royal Portbury Dock. With such a wide range of itineraries, there’s a perfect cruise for every traveller.

My day aboard Ambition was more than just a pleasant visit; it was an invaluable learning experience. I now have a much clearer understanding of what Ambassador Cruises has to offer and can’t wait to share this knowledge with my clients. This cruise line is clearly committed to providing quality, no-fly holiday options for those in the West and beyond.
